It is a School Management Council decision that the standard of dress at Kyilla School is the school uniform, because it is the most reasonable way to neatly dress a child. It also encourages school pride. If for any reason the uniform is not worn, neat conservative and socially acceptable clothing must be worn. Children in an unacceptable standard of dress will not be taken on excursions. Students representing the school in educational, cultural or sporting activities are expected to be in school uniform. The school uniform is as follows: Gold T shirt or Club shirt Royal blue skirt/shorts/trousers Royal blue tracksuit with logo on top Gym shoes or sandals HatIt is school policy that all children wear hats outside every day. CANTEEN | ![]()
The school runs a canteen, the profits of which are used for school needs. The canteen is run by a group of parent helpers on a roster. This volunteer help is very much appreciated, for without them, the canteen could not run. If you wish to volunteer, please talk to helpers on any day that you are in the canteen area. We believe schools should set an example in good foods, so we only stock appropriate lines. Any changes to the menu must be approved by the parent body through the P. & C. Association. LIBRARY | ![]()
Over the last few years, the school library has developed as a vital part of your child's learning program. To continue this service, it is absolutely vital that we have some parental assistance in the day-to-day running of the library. The sorts of activities done by parents include checking books in and out, replacing books on to shelves, cataloguing books, repairing and covering books etc. If you can help, please contact the school library or the Principal.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES | ![]()
Chicken Pox has an incubation period of 14 to 21 days. It is infectious from the day before the rash appears to when the rash heals. Symptoms include a red spotty blister rash, with scabs, mainly on the torso. Children should not return to school until all scabs are healed. Measles has an incubation period of 7 to 21 days and is infectious 5 days before and 5 days after the rash appears. Symptoms include discharge for the eyes and nose, red patches behind ears and on the chest and white spots in the mouth. Children should not return to school until the rash fades. A new measles control program was begun in 1990 by the Western Australian Health Department. In this program, contacts who are under 12 years of age and have no immunity to measles should be excluded from school for 13 days after exposure. (Immunisation can be performed up to three (3) days after exposure, in which case a Certificate of Vaccination will allow readmission). Rubella-German Measles has an incubation period of 9 to 21 days. Period of communicability: From 3 days before to at least 4 days after the onset of symptoms of rash. Children should not return to school until at least 4 days after on set of rash. Mumps is a viral infection characterised by fever and swelling and tenderness of the salivary glands. Mumps can be infectious 2 to 3 days before and during duration of swelling. Children are excluded from school until 14 days from on set. Glandular Fever develops over 5 to 14 days and is not infectious. It is recognised by swollen glands in the whole body, fever, sore throat and abdominal pains. Children should not return to school until clinically well. School Sores are a bacterial infection, transmitted by direct contact and children should remain at home until all sores are healed. Ring Worm is a fungus infection transmitted by direct contact. Children must stay home until completely healed. Vomiting before school, should keep a child at home for the day. Vaccinations are necessary.
SCHOOL MANAGEMENT COUNCIL | ![]()
Schools are required by legislation to have a decision making group comprised of principal, teaching staff and parents. At Kyilla, this group is known as the School Management Council. The major operations of this group are outlined in a Constitution which is available at school for all parents to read. With regard to the above document, the major functions of the School Management Council are: 1. To help set the Vision, Ethos and Purpose Statement and Performance Indicators. 2. To review school performance in priority areas. 3. To help set the school Priorities. 4. To endorse the Resource Allocation as outlined in the school budget.The Kyilla School Management Council has been involved in this process since September, 1992. School Planning is in the interests of all parents, pupils and staff. Your interest and appropriate involvement is welcomed. Parent nominations for the School Management Council are called for at the P. & C. Annual General Meeting. You are always welcome to approach the school for further information.
SCHOOL PLANNING | ![]() | ||
Over the past few years, there has been a trend to take school planning away from central office and place it into schools. The school planning process operates as follows: 1. All schools must have a stated purpose indicating why the institution exists. The Kyilla School Purpose Statement is: All Kyilla Primary School students will develop to their fullest potential effective cognitive, physical, social and creative skills and attitudes, to enable them to participate positively in society. In addition, the Kyilla School Community collaborated to create a School Vision and School Ethos which are: Kyilla's Vision: Children, their families and the staff working together to create better futures, through the joy of learning. Kyilla's Ethos: Learning which is: student centred and developmental: Flexible, relevant and practical: and stimulating and fun in a community of learners.Innovative teaching which: recognises the individual; focuses on life-long learning; and provides a balance of experiences. Maintaining an environment that is: safe and supportive; caring and respectful; and active and involving. 2. From the purpose statement we are able to draw a number of Outcomes which are a general list of statements to help a school check if its Purpose Statement is being met. That is, the performance indicators are subsets of the overall school purpose. Kyilla School's Performance Outcomes are noted as follows: The success of Kyilla Primary School in fulfilling its purpose will be indicated by the extent to which: 1. Students use language to understand, develop and communicate ideas and information and interact with others 2. Students select, integrate and apply numerical and spatial concepts and techniques 3. Students recognise when and what information is needed, locate and obtain it from a arrange of sources and evaluate, use and share it with others 4. Students select, use and adapt technologies 5. Students describe and reason about patterns, structures and relationships in order to understand, interpret, justify and make predictions 6. Students visualise consequences, think laterally, recognise opportunity and potential and are prepared to test options 7. Students understand and appreciate the physical, biological and technological world and have the knowledge and skills to make decision in relation to it 8. Students understand their, geographic and historical contexts and have the knowledge, skills and values necessary for active participation in Australian life 9. Students interact with people and cultures other than their own and are equipped to contribute to the global community 10. Students participate in creative activity of their own and understand and engage with the artistic, cultural and intellectual work of others 11. Students value and implement practices that promote personal growth and well being 12. Students are self-motivated and confident in their approach to learning and are able to work individually and collaboratively 13. Students recognise that everyone has the right to feel valued and be safe, and, in this regard, understand their rights and obligations and behave responsibly.3. Each year, the school will review its performance to find how well it is operating. It will collect data from many sources (e.g. teacher records and school wide tests) and from this data will make decisions about where it might put extra effort and where it will maintain effort at usual levels. The measurement of the school's performance is called its Management Information System. 4. From the data collected from the Management Information System, the school chooses areas it will target for extra effort and resources for a given period. These areas are called Priorities. Parents will duly be informed about these during each year. 5. These priorities are subject to Plans giving specific detail about how the priorities will be organised. 6. Once the Plans have been developed, resources must be allocated in the form of the school budget. This budget should reflect the need for extra resources to be directed to the major priorities where appropriate. 7. Even though the school has noted some specific priorities, this does NOT mean that any of the normal operations of a school will be reduced. Schools will function as they always have and policy and planning in all areas is ongoing every year.
