CURRICULUM

 
 
Teachers at Kyilla promote student-centred learning across eight learning areas.

The Arts

The Kyilla choir and recorder group participate in a number of music festivals each year; many of Kyilla’s instrumental music students gain secondary scholarships to specialist music schools. An art exhibition of all student’s work is held annually.

Health and Physical Education

The programme is based on development of fundamental movement skills through fun and participation. Children participate in local sporting competitions.

Technology and Enterprise

A new learning area where children create new products to fulfil a need.

Languages Other Than English

Years 1 – 7 learn Italian.

Society and Environment

The focuses are respect for others, co-operation and caring for our environment.

English

All English learning is based on First Steps strategies. Literacy skills are a high priority.

Science

Science is based on children discovering scientific principles through hands-on activities, investigations and experiments.

Mathematics

The focuses are development of basic mathematical skills and problem solving abilities.

 

 

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

 
 

Parents as Educative Partners

Parents are regarded as the most significant people in children’s lives and are the vital link in children’s learning.
Parental involvement in, and an understanding of learning at school, is a fundamental cornerstone of Kyilla’s Ethos.

Parents and Citizens

An active Parents and Citizens group meets on the first Monday of each month. All parents are most welcome to attend P. & C. meetings.

School Management Council

The School Management Council makes decisions about Kyilla.
Three elected parent representatives are members of this group.
